that 在引导宾语从句时不能省略的情况如下:
①and 连接两个宾语从句,且 that 宾语从句置于 and 之后时,that 不能省略。
Everybody could see what happened and that Tom was frightened.
②that 引导的宾语从句作介词宾语时,that 不能省略。
I know nothing about him except that he is from the south.
③that 从句位于句首时,that 不能省略。
That he ever said such a thing I simply don t believe.

④主句谓语动词与 that 从句之间有插入语时,that 不能省略。
We decided, in view of his special circumstances, that we would admit him for a probationary period.
(2) 连词 whether/ if 引导宾语从句时,whether/ if 在从句中不作成分,意为“ 是否”,介词后面的宾语从句只能用

whether 引导。
I don t know if / whether you can help me.
I m thinking of whether we should help him.
(3) 连接代词 who、whose、which、what、whoever、whatever、whichever 和连接副词 when、where、how、why、whenever、wherever、
however 引导宾语从句时,连接代词或连接副词在从句中有意义,作成分。
I wonder what he s writing to me about.

(4) it 作形式宾语,真正的宾语从句后置。 在这种结构中,that 不可省略。
She thinks it wrong that he didn t answer the phone.
3. 表语从句
表语从句在复合句中作表语,放在系动词之后,结构为“主语 + 连系动词 + 表语从句”。 可以接表语从句的连
系动词有 be、look、remain、seem 等。 引导表语从句的词有连词 that(无意义,不作成分)、whether(是否)、as if / though
(好像)、because(因为);连接代词 who、what、which 等;连接副词 when、where、how、why 等。 引导表语从句的 that 不

可省略。
The question remains whether they will be able to help us.
He didn t attend the party. The reason was that he was ill.
4. 同位语从句
在复合句中用作同位语的从句称为同位语从句。 同位语从句一般放在 fact、news、idea、truth、hope、problem、
information、belief、thought、doubt、promise、question 等抽象名词的后面,对前面的名词作进一步的解释,或说明前面名
词的具体含义。
引导同位语从句的连接词有从属连词 that、whether;连接代词 what、who 等和连接副词 when、where、why、how 等。
其中 that、whether 不作成分,that 无实际意义,whether 意为“是否”;其他连接词具有实义,同时在同位语从句中作一

定成分。 引导同位语从句的连接词一般都不能省略。 which 不能引导同位语从句。
