         She is always the first (person) to come and the last to leave.

         He is the only person to know the truth.

         3. 不定式说明它所修饰的名词或代词的内容,与被修饰词具有同位关系。 常见的这类名词有 ambition、decision、
         wish、chance、promise、plan、attempt、effort、right(权利)、ability、patience、way 等。

         I must keep the promise to pay within a month.

         Don  t give up the chance to stand out.

         He has an ambition to become a world champion.

         (二) 动词不定式作状语


                                                                                                                                                                                                             动词不定式作状语往往表示目的、原因、结果和条件等。 表示原因、结果时,不可置于句首。


         1. 动词不定式作目的状语


         She gave him some money to let him leave at once.

         【学法点拨】动词不定式作目的状语也常用在 in order (not) to do sth 或 so as (not) to do sth 结构中,但 so as (not) to

         do sth 结构一般不放在句首。

         In order to fetch wood, villagers had to walk a few kilometres.

         She swung a piece of meat in her hand so as to attract the lion  s attention.
         2. 动词不定式作原因状语

             动词不定式常置于一些形容词或过去分词后来说明产生某种情绪的原因。 这类词常见的有 happy、glad、

         fortunate、ashamed、surprised、sorry、delighted、disappointed、annoyed、proud 等。

         I  m glad to meet you at the fair.

         They are proud to have realized their dreams.

         3. 动词不定式作结果状语

         It seems that the employee didn  t sleep at all to be so sleepy in the early morning.

         (1) 不定式作结果状语时,常用于一些固定搭配中: so  as to do sth; such  as to do sth;   enough to do sth; too  to

         do sth。

         We have got so plenty of food as to treat our guests.

         Is that room big enough to seat all of us?

         (2) 不定式作结果状语时,常与 only、never 连用,强调出乎意料的结果或失望的情绪。

         She hurried to the station only to be told the train had gone.
